Neil Gaiman did a good job when he wrote Coraline. Right away he describes Coraline as an explorer. Coralline finds the secret door a little while after she moves into the big house. Coraline’s family shared the house with a crazy old man who lives in the attic, named Mr. Bobo. The basement of the house is owned by Miss Spink, and Miss Forcible. They were once actors.
Neil Gaiman did many things well about the book. There is thrilling detail, in the action parts of the book. He really wants you to feel like you’re right there in the middle of the chase. When Coraline goes through a trapdoor, Neil is amazing at describing the lighting in the hallway. It just amazed me.
Neil Gaiman made the plot of the book excellent too. Sometimes it just completely surprised me in what happened. Though most of the time you could tell what was going to happen. It was a good story line that Neil used. It wasn’t one of those books you could tell if the ending was going to be a happy one but it revealed itself in time.
I think that Coraline should have had a little sibling. It would have made a good rescue part. Or somebody that Coraline could tell her adventure to that actually believed it was true. That would have made the book a little bit better than it already was. Other than that, Neil did a really good job in writing the book.
I would recommend this book to any one who wants a book of adventure. It would be good for all ages above 7 years old. Not everyone would like the violence in some scenes. I really liked it, so I think that most kids my age would enjoy this book. Most of my group enjoyed this book too.
