The book A Corner of The Universe was a very emotional and exciting book at the same time. The book was about an eleven year old girl who lived in a small town called Millerton. She lived a pretty much normal life but things took a big turn when her Uncle Adam came back from Cleveland. Hattie had no idea how to deal with him. Adam had tried to jump off a Carnival wheel, he liked a woman who already had a boyfriend, and he was completely immature. When Adam kills himself Hattie has to adapt back to her normal life in Millerton.
In the book a corner of the universe the author did a lot of things well. One of these things was when Adam had just come to Millerton because it had so much curiosity building on about what Adam was going to look like and act like. When he finally got there it was like the complete opposite of what I was expecting. He was a happy caring and exciting instead I thought he was going to be a mope sad type of guy. This really made me want to read on.
Another thing the author did well was when Adam killed himself. I knew it was going to happen at some point and it happened pretty much were I expected it to happen. It was so sad and meaning full it almost was the best part in the book. This part made me finish the book and still wonder about what is going to happen next.
One thing I think the author didn’t do well was explaining Hattie’s life in the beginning. It got me off on the wrong track and made me not want to read the whole book because it was so boring. It just has Hattie going to the library and doing random tasks around the city. After you get past that though it was a great book.
I would recommend this book to anybody who likes a good meaning full story. This book has so many twists and turns and every thing ties together. It’s a good book to read every night for a week because it is short and interesting.
