In the book Dogsong by Gary Paulsen, you will experience the story on a strong adventure book filled with serious adventures and special relationships that will catch you by your mind and makes you to keep reading. It’s about a boy named Russel who is an Eskimo to prove himself that he can become a man. He was inspired by an Eskimo shaman Oogruk to go on a year- long journey to complete difficult tasks and come back to the village alive. On the way he faces a polar bear in a fierce battle and ends up saving a pregnant Eskimo girl. While on this journey, Russel has dark dreams to clear his mind and bring back traditional music back to his village.
Overall I liked the information that Gary Paulsen wrote about this book. He actually made you feel you were actually in the book and you can picture the parts in your mind. He came up with really good and intense parts during Russel’s journey to show how hard it was to become a man in the Eskimo beliefs. He showed the emotions that the characters had and you can feel them as you read along.
What Gary Paulson could of done better was the ending. He really didn’t say what happened in he end, he just let it open to make you think what could of happened next. It wasn’t the ending I was hoping for. Really the ending was just nothing. It didn’t say Russel made it back to the village alive, it ended with him going along the journey. I like the information and the explaining just didn’t like the ending.
I would recommend this book to a boy or a girl that likes books about the arctic wilderness and adventure.
