For my lit circle, I read the book Midnight Magic by Avi. The book is about a boy named Fabrizio, and his master, Mangus (the magician). Mangus is called upon by the king of Pergamontio to rid his castello of a terrible ghost, that has been haunting his daughter. When they arrive they come in contact with Count Scarizoni, an evil man in pursuit of the king’s throne. He has plans to marry the princess and take the throne out from under the king, because he had suposedly murdered the true heir to the throne, Prince Lorenzo. The ghost that had been scaring the princess was actually just a fake to try to make sure Scarizoni did not marry the her, and a simple kitchen boy, who was actually the prince in discize, was all part of the plan. When the ghost can not be conjured by the prince, fabrizio must take on the duty of exposeing the count for the traitor he really was, and in the end, all is well when count scarizoni is finnaly exposed and executed for treason.
Avi, in my mind, is a fantastic author with a vast imagination. He really made the book so that it felt although you were watching the whole story in person. The twists and turns in this book were mind boggling, but in the end, they all helped the story come together, and become a great tale of courage, perseervirence.
This book was a great book that I became really attached to. I would recommend it to everyone actually. Whether you are young or old, I think everyone will love this medevil tale of magic and mystery. I think it may attract mostly kids my age, because fabrizio was a boy of about 13, and I could connect to him.
