A Corner of The Universe by Ann M. Martin is a book about the small town of Millerton where a girl named Hattie Owen lives in the boardinghouse her parents own. Her parents are keeping a secret from her though. Hattie has an uncle Adam who she never knew about because he has to be at a special school for his mental problems. Now he is coming to Millerton and Hattie is caught in the middle and she doesn’t know how to deal with it.
The author made a very good book. The environment of the book is great. A small town faced with big things. Like the carnival. This book has great characters to. Like Adam and Hattie. The prologue and last chapters are connected in a cool format. Ann M. Martin made this book very meaningful. The emotion shows. This book is so sad. But it is also happy in some parts. You know a book is good if you can feel the emotions the characters are feeling.
The only thing I would have changed in this book is I would have added an epilogue. There are so many things you are dying to find out. Like if Leila ever writes back to Hattie. Or what happens in school. And how life is affected by death.
I would recommend the book to anyone who wants a sad story. Or anyone doesn’t want violence or action. This book could be a true story. There were no magic or weird things like that. I would read this book if I wanted a historical fiction. I really liked it. It was pretty good.
