The book Boy at War by Harry Mazer is about a boy named Adam who gets mistaken for a navy seal got stuck in the war of Pearl Harbor. His dad is also a navy seal on another boat. His dad’s boat is sunk though and he doesn’t see his dad in the water. A few days later they get a letter saying that his dad has been lost in action for the last few days. Adam handles this very well but it hurt to think about his dad. He was very proud of his dad and wanted to be just like him.
What I liked that Harry Mazer did was he made it interesting. I didn’t want to stop reading it. It left me wanting to know what was going to happened next. It created questions in my head like, What was going to happen to Adam? What happened to his dad is he dead or alive?
Other things the Author did well is he created a very good picture in my head it seemed like I was watching a movie. He put so much detail and description in his writing that naturally you want to keep reading. He also told what the characters were like with their actions. You could really see their personalities.
The things I thought the author did poorly are the ending. It was happy but it could have been more detailed. It left me wondering too much.
I recommend this book to somebody who is interested in war and action. I recommend it to These kind of people because it has a lot of action and it is about war.
